“Don’t worry about what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and do that. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.” Howard Thurman
Do we need resolutions or transformation? Resolutions tend to be about working to get what we want. What we need is to submit to the Lord, and accept what God has for us.
This subject was addressed at Cedar Ridge last Sunday, which you can see at http://www.crcc.org/messages/2009/12-27_transformation-beyond-new-years-resolutions Particularly pay attention to the testimonies, which begin at 13+ minutes into the tape.
I don't normally do New Year's resolutions but I do believe that when one is resolved toward transformation, it is a means by which we can participate with the Divine. Resolution can be a wedding one's consciousness, will, and intelligence with one's spiritual tenderness.
I'm not sure how to explain it, but this can also involve disciplining oneself from relying on an arrogant assumption that will power or intellectual power is by itself sufficient for truly fundamental change.
